There are a lot of probiotic supplements on the market. It’s alarming that most of them are not only ineffective and dead on arrival, but also could be harmful and may not even include the probiotic strains they advertise.

Many supplements are filled with fillers!

It’s important to find brands that are trustworthy and live up to their reputation.

I wanted to write a few different articles and reviews on the ones that I feel are superior – the ones that actually work and use tested ingredients.

This first probiotic review will be on Bio Complete 3 which was created by Dr. Steven Gundry.

Dr. Gundry is a well-known medical doctor, cardiologist, surgeon, researcher, and author that has broken with conventional medicine to include a more integrative approach. It’s important to me that any doctor that I take advice from understands medicine from a holistic perspective. I’ve had some unpleasant experiences with doctors who were dismissive of my symptoms and wanted to throw medication onto problems that have since been resolved through holistic methods!

I had been dealing with constipation, acne, depression, and anxiety as well as a range of other related symptoms my whole life.

So I gave Gundry MD™ Bio Complete 3 a try for 3 full months and I wanted to share the results with you. I also went deep into each of the ingredients so you know why they’re important and where they come from.

First, I’ll give a breakdown of what’s in this probiotic.

What Is Bio Complete 3?

Bio Complete 3 review

Dr. Gundry specifically formulated Bio Complete 3 to support gut health. It’s an all-in-one prebiotic, probiotic, and postbiotic supplement. Not many probiotic supplements can claim all three!

Gut health is critical for our overall health. Most people don’t realize that we have more bacteria and other microorganisms in our gut microbiome than we have actual human cells in the body.

We are a walking community!

These “community members” are vital to our health because we depend on them for our bodily functions. Our gut bacteria support our immune system, synthesize vitamins, produce neurotransmitters and hormones, and help us digest and absorb nutrients from our food.

Our physical, emotional, and mental health are completely reliant on whether or not we have a healthy gut microbiome.

So obviously if our gut health is compromised, a huge number of things can go wrong.

Some of the conditions you could experience are leaky gut, candida overgrowth, SIBO, and mental illness among others. These conditions – while painful in and of themselves with their own lists of symptoms – if left untreated can lead to more serious problems like autoimmune disorders and even cancer.

I think adding Bio Complete 3 to your day along with eating a healthy diet and getting exercise, could really help heal your gut if you’re already suffering from these conditions, as well as to stave off issues like these in the future.

So what’s in Bio Complete 3 anyway?

What’s The Difference? Prebiotic, Probiotic & Postbiotic

There are three types of powerful ingredients in Bio Complete 3: prebiotics, probiotics, and postbiotics.

1. Prebiotics

Prebiotics are the fiber component of the supplement. It’s the food that our good bacteria eat. We need to support ourBio Complete 3 ingredients good gut bacteria with what they need to survive so they can keep us healthy.

The prebiotic that Dr. Gundry chose is Sunfiber®.

Sunfiber is a soluble dietary fiber made from guar beans. It supports digestive health without causing excess gas or bloating because it is a low-FODMAP fiber.

Often if someone has a gut condition like SIBO they’d want to temporarily steer clear of certain high-FODMAP foods because it can cause more gas, bloating or diarrhea. So because Sunfiber is low-FODMAP this supplement may be worth a shot if SIBO is a concern.

Also, traditional probiotic bacteria may irritate the condition, but not Bio Complete 3.

2. Probiotics

Most people have heard of probiotics and know of their importance in keeping you regular. By reading this article, you know they do way more than that!

Many people also don’t realize, however, that most of the probiotics on the market today are dead on arrival, or are killed by our very own stomach acid, bile, and heat. They don’t make it down into the large intestine where they’re supposed to live.

That’s our money down the toilet!

This is exactly why Bio Complete 3 uses a soil-based or spore-based probiotic bacteria called Bacillus coagulans.

B. coagulans has a much better chance at surviving your stomach acid and making it into your colon where it belongs and where it can have an effect. Studies have shown that Bacillus coagulans are significantly effective in treating people with major depression along with IBS.

The following is the description of the bacteria strain Dr. Gundry chose for his supplement from the company that formulated and tested it:

ProDURA Bacillus coagulans

ProDURA®Bacillus coagulans is a unique strain of spore-forming bacteria. In their spore form, the bacteria are dormant encased in an outer shell, allowing them to withstand the harshest environments. When they encounter the perfect conditions of temperature, pH, and moisture in the large intestine, they revert to their active form.

The result is a remarkably resilient probiotic that is able to withstand extreme conditions (including high temperatures, processing, stomach acid, and bile) and is that room temperature-stable for up to three years, yet is also bioavailable. Importantly, not all strains of B. coagulans are the same. A 2013 laboratory study found that ProDURA® had greater heat resistance than two well-established competitors in the marketplace.”

The last ingredient:

3. Postbiotics

Postbiotics are less well-known but they are extremely important. These are the byproducts of our gut bacteria’s fermentation process.

Our gut bacteria create what’s called short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs). SCFAs are the nutrition for your colon. They actually reduce the risk of obesity, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes.

So much of the benefits we get from our friendly gut bacteria come from SCFAs they produce, such as butyrate.

Supplements that contain butyrate are meant to heal the gut lining and reverse leaky gut syndrome. Unfortunately, these molecules again, do not make it into the colon.

This is why Bio Complete includes CoreBiome® tributyrin. Tributyrin does make it into the colon where it converts into butyrate so that it can be used by the body. Consuming fiber and tributyrin boosts our SCFAs which are the foundation of a healthy gut.

Here is a short explanation from the CoreBiome website:

“Short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) are the foundation of gut health and arguably, human health. As gut health is intricately tied to nearly all physiological systems (brain, immune, skin, muscle, etc.), patent-pending CoreBiome® is the foundational ingredient for gut formulas that formerly only included probiotics. Many are realizing probiotics are transient and difficult to colonize in an inflamed gut. Getting the gut back into balance with CoreBiome® and prebiotics is the first step.”

The Claims

Gundry MD claims that Bio Complete 3 can give you results such as:

  • weight loss
  • more energy
  • easier digestion
  • more regular bowel movements
  • reduced junk food cravings
  • improved muscle strength

And the glowing reviews seem to back these up.

Of course, these were from the Gundry MD website itself. So I searched Google for some more critical reviews and didn’t find too many:

This person seemed especially confused when you see the rating compared to the review:

It seems like most people are really happy with the results from Bio Complete 3 and if not I think they’d benefit from sticking with it for longer than a few weeks.

I can only speak from my personal experience, however.

The Downsides

I will say that $69.95 per bottle of 90 capsules is a lot of money when you need to take 4 of them a day. Two in the morning

pros and cons of Bio Complete 3

and two in the evening. But you must use Bio Complete 3 as directed or you won’t see results.

In my opinion, it’s worth the price for the health benefits I’ve experienced. Next time I run out I will buy a bundle of 3 (or 6!) in order to save money in the long run. And after looking around at other quality products, the price is actually pretty comparable.

Often you really do get what you pay for.

Do I Recommend Bio Complete 3?

I’ve been taking Bio Complete 3 for 3 months so far and I have to say I have experienced a complete turnaround in my bowel movements.

I had been doing Dr. Meyers’ 30-Day Candida Breakthrough protocol which I was impressed with and had gotten most of my long list of issues solved. Bio Complete 3 safe and effective

Finally!

But I wasn’t completely satisfied at the 30-day mark so I kept going with the diet – which I think is totally necessary. Gut issues are not fixed overnight. It’s critical that you continue your treatment and adopt a healthier lifestyle permanently.

This is also when I started taking Dr. Gundry’s Bio Complete 3.

Wow!

Adding this supplement to the mix really made a difference. I’ve never had such an easy time in the bathroom. I am so excited about finally being a healthy Bristol Stool Scale #4!

Not only that but I noticed a difference in my mood as well. I felt less irritable and anxious and experienced a mood boost.

Now I know that I changed my diet along with taking this supplement but I am convinced that the probiotic strain B. coagulans in Bio Complete 3 is what completely cleared up my slightly lingering constipation and eased the depressive symptoms that my new diet didn’t fully address.

Of course, everyone has different results. But for me, the dark cloud has passed and I’m really grateful to have found Bio Complete 3.

I definitely recommend giving this a shot!

Let me know in the comments if you’ve tried Bio Complete 3 or if you’ve had any success with other probiotics! I’d love to hear your story. And please ask me any questions you have about Bio Complete 3 and let me know if I missed anything.
